See which devices waste watts

Plug-in power meter

A Kill‑A‑Watt–style meter between the wall and the device. Live watts and cumulative kWh turn “I think this wastes power” into a number you can act on.

How it works

Plug the meter into the wall, plug the device into the meter, read watts at idle and in use. Leave it overnight for cumulative energy if you want a bill-shaped estimate.

What to test first

  • Consoles and set-top boxes in “off” / quick-start modes.
  • Chargers with nothing attached.
  • Desktop docks and monitor clusters.
  • Space heaters — confirm they draw what the label claims.

How Enrev uses the numbers

Meters make Lab verdicts and standby articles honest. Once you see a soft-off console sip watts around the clock, a switched strip or smart plug stops being abstract advice.

Measure once. Then cut with confidence.

Practical tips

  • Borrow one for a weekend audit if you don’t want to own it.
  • Write readings down — memory is optimistic.
