A power strip with a real rocker switch — no app required. Flip once and an entire cable nest loses power. The analog twin of a smart plug, perfect for renters.

How it works

Plug monitors, speakers, consoles, and spare chargers into the strip. Leave always-on essentials (router, medical devices) on a wall outlet. Mount the strip where you can reach the switch without crawling behind furniture.

Desk pattern

  • One strip for “work day” devices, flipped off when you leave.
  • Label outlets if kids or guests share the space.
  • Don’t exceed the amp rating printed on the strip.
  • Combine with cable ties so flipping doesn’t yank plugs loose.

TV pattern

Entertainment stacks are classic phantom-load nests. One switch by the couch arm kills the soft-off glow. Tell household members once — then it becomes muscle memory.

A finger flip is still the most reliable automation.

Practical tips

  • Avoid “surge protector daisy chains” that overload a single outlet.
  • If you need schedules while traveling, add a smart plug upstream instead of replacing the strip.
