How it works
On a cold, windy day, feel around door edges with a damp hand or incense stick. Light showing under a door is a bill you can see. Weatherstrip closes those gaps; a sweep seals the threshold gap.
Install basics
- Clean the frame so adhesive sticks — dust kills bonds.
- Measure, cut, and compress foam into place rather than stuffing huge gaps poorly.
- Replace crumbly old foam instead of layering forever.
- Check that the door still latches smoothly after sealing.
Stack with other heat savers
Weatherstrip pairs with thermal curtains, radiator clearance (don’t block with sofas), and modest thermostat schedules. Closing leaks often allows a lower setpoint without feeling colder.
The cheapest heat is the heat you don’t leak.
