Clean your oven with two cheap ingredients

Clean your oven with two cheap ingredients

Factory self-clean cycles smell terrible and heat the whole kitchen. Baking soda and vinegar still handle everyday baked-on mess if you give them time — not a frantic five-minute scrub.

Use this method for a solid first pass. Club adds tray-by-tray tactics and glass-door care.

The paste that works

Coat cool oven surfaces with a baking-soda paste (soda + a little water). Avoid coating heating elements and bare bulb openings. Leave it for several hours or overnight, then wipe and mist with vinegar to lift residue.

  • Remove racks and soak them in a tub with dish soap.
  • Use a plastic scraper on thick carbon — not metal chisels on enamel.
  • Crack a window; vinegar smell fades fast.

What you’ll need

  • Baking soda and white vinegar
  • A spray bottle and a soft sponge or cloth
  • Optional: plastic spatula for thick carbon — never metal scrapers on enamel

Prevention beats scrubbing

A sheet of oven liner (rated for your oven) or a drip tray under bubbling dishes catches the worst carbon. Wipe soft spills while the oven is warm—not hot—so sugar doesn’t turn into concrete overnight.

Overnight baking soda does the scrubbing while you sleep.

Club members get the overnight deep protocol, liner recommendations, and a prevent-smoke checklist for the next roast. Unlock the full clean.

Overnight paste, morning wipe

A thick baking-soda paste on cool enamel, left overnight, softens baked-on spills so a scraper and cloth can finish without a fume-heavy spray. Vinegar helps lift residue after. Avoid coating heating elements and check your manual for self-clean versus manual-clean guidance.

  • Remove racks and soak them separately.
  • Protect the floor — paste drips.
  • Ventilate even with mild ingredients if you are sensitive to smells.
